The 1949 Season Set.  The Summer of 49 by David Halberstam chronicled one of the greatest pennant races of all time through the lens of the Yankees - Red Sox rivalry and the push for the pennant that featured stars like Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.  Baseball, like the country, was entering a post war boom and it didn't get hotter than the races in both the American and National League.  The Yankees swept the Red Sox in a two game season finale to win the pennant after being swept by them in Boston just a week earlier.  In the National League, the Brooklyn Dodgers took advantage of a late stumble by the St. Louis Cardinals to win the pennant.  The World Series featured a rematch of the 1947 Fall Classic and the result was the same and even less dramatic as the Yankees beat the Dodgers in five games.  Ted Williams won the AL MVP hitting .343 and belting 43 home runs.  Jackie Robinson won the NL MVP hitting .342 and stealing 37 bases.  Warren Spahn led the NL with 21 wins and Mel Parnell led the AL with 25 wins.  Go back in time and relive the summer of 1949 with Dugout Steps Baseball and the 1949 Season Set.
