The New York Yankees restore order in the Empire State.  After losing the 1955 World Series to the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Yankees returned to the Fall Classic to avenge the loss, beating the Dodgers in seven games highlighted by Don Larsen's Perfect Game.  Mickey Mantle won the Major League Triple Crown topping both circuits in batting average at .353, Homers with 52 and RBIs with 130.  It's one of the all-time great individual seasons.  The Yankees had little trouble in the American League, led by Mantle, finishing 9.0 games in front of the Indians.  The National League, however, was a different story.  Leading by 5.5 games at the end of July, the Milwaukee Brewers looked like favorites to get to the World Series for the first time since 1948.  But, the Cincinnati Redlegs and the Brooklyn Dodgers had different ideas.  Cincinnati, led by the amazing rookie Frank Robinson and the cast of familiar legends from the Dodgers battled with the Braves right until the end.  In one of the best pennant races ever, the Dodgers finished 1.0 games ahead of the Braves and 2.0 games ahead of the Redlegs.  The Dodgers were led by NL MVP Don Newcombe who won 27 games while in the American League, the Indians had three 20 game winners and Mickey Mantle won the MVP.  Frank Robinson won the NL Rookie of the Year Award and Luis Aparicio took home the AL MVP Award.  The baseball was compelling from start to finish in 1956.  Relive it all with Dugout Steps Baseball and the 1956 Season Set.
