The World Championship returns to the Bronx for the first time since 1962.  George Steinbrenner lures Reggie Jackson to the Yankees and he joins Graig Nettles, Thurmon Munson and a strong pitching rotation to build on the 1976 World Series appearance where they were swept by the Big Red Machine.  It wasn't an easy journey for the Yankees, however.  The American League East was very strong as both the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox battled the Yankees all the way to the end with both teams finishing just 2.5 games behind the Bronx Bombers.  In the American League West, the Kansas City Royals continued their winning ways, with 102 victories.  The Philadelphia Phillies won the NL East and the Los Angeles Dodgers, thanks in part two four players hitting at least 30 Home Runs, took home the NL West flag.  Baseball fans were captivated in 1977 as Rod Carew flirted with .400 the entire season and was named the AL MVP.  George Foster walloped an NL Record 52 Home Runs and took home the NL MVP award while the Lefty, Steve Carlton, won 23 games and took home the NL Cy Young Award    Sparkly Lyle, the outstanding Yankee reliever, won the AL Cy Young Award.  The Yankees beat the Royals in a tough AL Championship Series while the Dodgers emerged over the Phillies.  Reggie Jackson becomes Mr. October as he leads the Yankees over the Dodgers in the World Series capping it off with the amazing 3 Home Runs on 3 Pitches in Game 6 of the series.  The 1977 baseball season is forever etched in the history and lore of Major League Baseball.  Relive it all with Dugout Steps Baseball and the 1977 Season Set.
