Bucky F-ing Dent!  For all of the memorable cast of characters and drama in the Bronx Zoo, it's Bucky F-ing Dent that delivers big time in a 1 game playoff against the bitter Yankee rivals, the Red Sox.    The Yankees and Red Sox waged war throughout the entire memorable 1978 season, culminating in the 1 game playoff to determine the winner of the AL East.  Dent delivered and the Yankees were off to face another familiar foe, the Kansas City Royals to determine who would go to the World Series.  The National League saw two tremendous division races.  In the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies again bested their Keystone State Rivals, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  In the National League West, the Los Angeles Dodgers were again the class of the division but the Cincinnati Reds wouldn't allow them to run away with it.  Dave Parker won the NL MVP Award while Rookie Bob Horner, fresh from college, won the NL Rookie of the Year Award.  Aging like fine wine, Gaylord Perry won 21 games for the Padres to take home the NL Cy Young Award.  Jim Rice won the AL MVP Award while Louisiana Lightning, Ron Guidry, went 25-3 and took home the CY Young Award.  Lou Whitaker won the AL Rookie of the Year Award.  In the ALCS, the Yankees again beat a tough Kansas City team.  In the NL, the Dodgers emerged again over the Phillies.  As in 1977, the Yankees beat the Dodgers 4-2 to win back-to-back World Series.  A 1 game playoff, tight division races and outstanding individual performances characterize the 1978 MLB season.  Relive it all with Dugout Steps Baseball and the 1978 Season Set.
