The 1988-89 NHL Season is remembered mostly for one major event, Wayne Gretzky's first season in Los Angeles.  After shocking the world and leaving Edmonton, the Great One took his game to the gold coast and created a frenzy in Los Angeles.  Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens were two outstanding teams as the Flames took home the President's Trophy with 117 points and Montreal was second with 115.  Mario Lemieux torched the league with 85 goals and 114 assists to finish with 199 points on the season.  FIrewagon hockey was still popular in 88-89!  Gretzky put up 168 points and Steve Yzerman 155.  Patrick Roy led the league with 2.47 goals against and a .908 save percentage.  Brian Leetch won the Calder Trophy and Joe Sakic was another impressive rookie.  Once the playoffs started, Calgary and Montreal were on a collision course and they met in the Stanley Cup Finals with the Flames winning in six games.  Re-live all of the excitement with Rinkside Hockey and the 1988-89 Season Set.
