The 1980 NFL Season Set. Fly Eagles Fly!  The Raiders go Wild!  The Kardiac Kids!  Red Right 88!  The 1980 NFL Season is one for the ages.  The Oakland Raiders became the first Wild Card team to win the Super Bowl but that only tells part of the story in 1980.  The 12-4 Philadelphia Eagles had a fierce defense an a steady Ron Jaworski at quarterback and they won the NFL East in a tiebreaker over the Dallas Cowboys.  The Atlanta Falcons were the surprise of the NFC, finishing at 12-4.  The Wild Card Cowboys had to travel to Atlanta in the 1st Round of the Divisional Playoffs and beat the Falcons 30-27 in a tough game.  The Eagles defeated the Vikings to create a Cowboys - Eagles match up in the NFC Championship Game that the Eagles would win 20-7.  The Raiders beat the Oilers in the AFC Wild Card Round, setting the stage for one of the most memorable games in NFL history when they went to play the Browns in Cleveland.  The game was the coldest NFL game since the Ice Bowl at 4 Degrees.  Trailing 14-12, the Kardiac Kids were in position to kick a game winning field goal.  The Browns called Red Right 88 and Brian Sipe had specific directions to throw the ball in Lake Eerie if nothing was open.  Instead, he tried to force the ball into Ozzie Newsome and it was picked off by Raiders Safety Mike Davis.  Controversy and bad memories have remained in Cleveland ever since!  The Raiders went on to face the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship Game after the Chargers had defeated the Buffalo Bills in a tough Divisional Round game.  The Raiders defeated the Chargers 30-27 in San Diego and were headed to the Super Bowl to face the Eagles.  The Raiders beat the Eagles 27-10 thanks in part to an 80 yard TD catch by Kenny King from Jim Plunkett and 3 Rod Martin Interceptions.  The 1980 NFL Season is full of great individual performances and tremendous Divisional Races.  Dan Fouts, Steve Bartkowski, Brian Sipe all had great years at Quarterback.  Earl Campbell ran for 1,934 yards and a trio of Charger receivers had great seasons.  The Divisional races were extremely close as the AFC Central, AFC West, NFC East and NFC Central were all tied after 16 Weeks with the winner being determined by the tiebreaker system.  The AFC East and NFC West winners finished only a game better than the second place teams.  A truly memorable NFL Season.  Relive it all with Sideline Football and the 1980 NFL Season Set.
